When most people think of design, they picture logos, ads, or websites. For Tim Miller, however, design became a way to solve a deeper problem: helping people find their way in the built environment. As the founder of Miller EG Design, Tim has spent more than three decades transforming how people navigate complex spaces such as campuses, buildings, and public areas. His company’s mission can be summed up in a simple phrase—“Better Wayfinding.”
From Spark to Flame
Tim’s entrepreneurial journey began earlier than most. As a high school student in 1969, he was already intrigued by the idea of running a business. Though resources at the time were limited, the books he discovered planted a seed. Years later, after working for others, he realized he wanted to approach his career differently—by serving customers in a better, more innovative way. That drive for improvement became the foundation for his company.
“I felt a strong need to do better work, solve challenges in better ways, and derive a satisfaction from doing work I really enjoyed,” he shares.
What Sets Miller EG Design Apart
Miller EG Design—where EG stands for Experiential Graphics—specializes in wayfinding solutions that prevent confusion in large or complex environments. Architects, contractors, and developers increasingly recognize the importance of this emerging discipline, and Tim’s firm was among the first to embrace it.
What makes the company stand out isn’t just its expertise but its philosophy. Tim and his team have built a reputation for over-delivering on promises, combining creativity with precision. That commitment to accuracy, timeliness, and budget discipline has earned Miller EG Design respect and staying power in a competitive industry.
But Tim doesn’t shy away from acknowledging the learning curve. With a background in graphic design, he had to teach himself the intricacies of business—finance, operations, marketing, and leadership. Failures along the way didn’t discourage him. Instead, they reinforced his dedication to lifelong learning and his vision for innovation.
A Life Rooted in Community and Balance
While Tim’s work is defined by clarity in design, his personal life reflects his love for clarity in nature. Based near Atlanta, he finds joy in outdoor adventures like biking the Silver Comet Trail, hiking Kennesaw Mountain, or taking in the views at Red Top Mountain. For him, the outdoors provide both refreshment and inspiration.
And when the adventure winds down? Tim believes some of the best memories are made around a grill, preparing meals and swapping cooking secrets with friends.
The Importance of Mentors and Support
Behind every enduring business is a network of support, and Tim readily acknowledges those who have influenced his path. From authors like W. Edward Deming to coaches such as Peter Faser, and from colleagues in architecture and finance to his own employees, Tim credits many with shaping his outlook and refining his approach.
He also draws strength from personal relationships, particularly his girlfriend Margaret, whose encouragement he describes as a vital source of energy and motivation.
A Legacy of Innovation
With more than 34 years in business, Miller EG Design is more than just a design firm—it’s a testament to persistence, innovation, and the belief that even ordinary tasks can be done in extraordinary ways. Tim Miller’s story is a reminder that entrepreneurship isn’t just about creating a company; it’s about creating solutions that make life easier, clearer, and more connected.
